With the harsh reality of climate change becoming more visible; it is a necessary move that the government is focusing targets and budgets on reducing carbon emissions. In Labour's recent statements on climate change, carbon emissions was illustrated that Britain used 656 million tons of Carbon dioxide a year and it has reduced by 6.4% since 1990. This statistics are 12% lower than real green house emissions found by National Audit Office (NAO). The real figures are that Britain emissions are more like 733 million tons of carbon dioxide each year. This undermines much of what the government is trying to achieve and therefore still a long way to go to control the world's climate change. The reason that the greenhouse emissions figures differ is because the government only takes in to account limited factors that the NAO have to include in their findings. The government only takes into account carbon dioxide figures when there are five other greenhouse gases that affect climate change including methane and nitrous oxide. The government also failed to include the emissions created by shipping, British businesses that operate abroad and emissions created by British holiday makers abroad.
