Since Sky broadband started in August 2006 it has gained 1 million customers to make it officially the UK's fastest UK broadband provider. Sky are proud of their internet service that they are providing and 58% of their customers have switched from other broadband providers and 42% of their customers are signing up to broadband for the first time. 30% of their customers are Sky TV customers and have signed up with a multi service deal. Sky was the first to offer a free wireless router so people can use the internet in any room in the house. Sky has done some research into their customers and findings have concluded that internet seems crucial to everyday life. 82% of Sky broadband customers use the service everyday and a third of these everyday users will spend over three hours each day and will often use internet to use social networking sites. Other popular net activities include shopping, banking and keeping in touch The use of the internet has become an important and widely used element in our everyday lives. The internet allows use to do things quickly and access a huge range of things wit just one domain. The internet allows us to shop, research information and communicate with others all at the same time. With the fast paced lifestyle of today it is no surprise that Sky broadband covers 70% of the UK. In some ways the internet makes life a bit more antisocial and we no longer have to go out of the house to talk to friends or go shopping. The internet could be seen as allowing to see and do things in a faster more convenient way to allow more time for other interpersonal activities.
