Femtocells are small base stations used in homes and offices that are used to boost mobile phone coverage. It is to act as a high speed broadband for mobile phones and has 3G technology. British companies have seen the future to use Femtocells. No more big pylons will have to be built in residential areas and it will increase profits for operators. Google have invested in the Femtocells firm and Vodafone will trial the technology in the near future. Testing is currently taking place in London and each week more companies are showing their support to bring Femtocells on the Market. Chip suppliers, Mobile network operators and developers are all testing and progressing Femtocells in order for them to be out on the market in 2008. It is predicted that as soon as Femtocells are released volumes will quickly be huge. Research suggests that 67% of the UK population uses the internet so therefore those users will be more likely to use Femtocells. With this in mind it has been predicted that by 2012 Femtocells will be in 70 million homes to serve 150 million users around the world.
