Research company Nielsen released a study on Monday showing that the number of US households with a video game console has risen by 18% since 2004. The study from 2004 until 2006 found the number of consoles in the US had risen from 38.6 million to 45.7 million. The study also found that two thirds of men aged 18 to 24 owed a console, with 80% of 12 to 17 year olds having one in their home. These make up the prime demographics. It looks like this trend will continue to roll with Nintendo bringing out their Wii to rave reviews. Many predict that Xbox and Playstation will continue to slog it out in the battle for the hard core gamers with Wii dominating the family market. Wiis have been outselling Playstations in Japan which is launched in the UK in March.
